Paul Palmintere dancing in the center with Robin Adele Borjas, in an early Tango class, with instructor Orlando Paiva, Sr. in back looking on. This was taken in 1988, at 3rd Street Dance in West Hollywood, CA, which in those days was known as Studio of the Performing Arts. The owner, Peri Rogovin, was an early promoter of tango in Los Angeles, and her studio became the center of tango instruction in Los Angeles (and probably in the entire Western USA) for many, many years. Orlando Paiva would later perform in Robert Duval’s movie, “Assasination Tango” in 2002, filmed shortly before his death in 2003. I became the Tango instructor there myself, together with Linda Valentino, in the mid-1990’s

Nicki Nichols, a Hustle dance friend from Orange County, CA, in a photo taken around 1988 at Nora’s Place Restaurant in North Hollywood, CA, which in those years was the major venue for dancing tango in Los Angeles (and probably in the entire Western USA). There was a “milonga” (tango dance party) there every Sunday & Thursday evening for many years.

Paul Palmintere dancing with Joan Moran at 2001 Dance Studio in Torrance, CA. This photo was taken in the late 1990’s.

Paul Palmintere dancing with Lynn Vogen, owner of Lynn Vogen Dance Studios in Huntington Beach, CA. Lynn was an amazing and brilliant dancer and teacher in Orange County, in Southern California. She was a champion West Coast Swing dancer, and a trainer of champions. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, she was also the major instructor of N.Y. Hustle in the Western USA. Lynn was very famous, and touched many, many lives in the social dance world of Southern California. I had the honor of teaching at her studio in the late 1990’s, where this photo was taken, probably in the late 1990’s or early 2000’s. Lynn passed away in 2005.

Paul Palmintere and Linda Valentino receiving recognition awards at The Argentine Association, in Burnbank, CA, in the mid-to-late 1990’s. The Argentine Association is a very unique institution in Southern California. Technically the “Argentine-American Cultural Center of Los Angeles” or “La Asociacion Argentina,” it is a social club modeled after many in Buenos Aires, and has a wall-to-wall dance floor, professional kitchen, bar, etc. It is run by hundreds of members from Argentina, and is open to the public for Tango dancing on Sundays & Thursdays. On the left is Daniel Araujo, a major official at The Association. I had the honor in the late 1990’s to work there Sunday evenings. I taught the Tango class, deejayed the tango music, and even worked behind the bar. Those were fun years. Linda Valentino and I were Tango partners in the mid-1990’s. Linda became a major Tango instructor in Hollywood, and has recently opened her own dance studio Downtown Los Angeles, called “Downtown Dance & Movement.”

Paul Palmintere teaching a Tango class at The Argentine Association in Burbank in the around 1999 or 2000. It is a wonderful facility, and “The Association” remains very popular to this day.

Paul Palmintere (on the right) with some of his students in Palm Springs. In the mid-2000’s, I had the good fortune of teaching Tango at a very famous restaurant & dance hall in Palm Springs, “Billy Reed’s,” an old-time, beautiful restaurant and banquet hall that harkens back to the time of Sinatra. I had a wonderful situation there every Monday night, and I taught Tango classes, private lessons, and even deejayed a “milonga” (tango dance party). Palm Springs became my best Tango situation ever. Seated on a stool in the center of the photo is a lady who became a major student of mine, Margo Baxley, and she invited us into her home often, where this photo was taken around 2006.

Paul Palmintere, on the right, with Facundo & Kelly Posadas in the center. Facundo Posadas is a great “milonguero” (Argentina’s expert, life-long Tango dancers) and one of the finest and most-popular persons in the World of Tango. He is now retired and resides in New York. This photo was taken at “L.A. Dance Experience” in West Los Angeles, in the early-to-mid 2000’s. His visit was hosted by Yolanda Rossi of Glendale, CA, a very fine Tango lady, who is a major Tango dancer, instructor, and fashion designer in the Los Angeles area. I am proud to say that she was also my last practice partner in Southern California, before I relocated to the Las Vegas area in the August of 2007.
